Flap surgery

1. The initial step is the Oral Examination of the patient, who will check the health of the gums and the tooth manually.
2. X-rays and tests aid in the detailed determination of health. They will be performed to determine if any other faults need to be treated on a priority basis before proceeding to Flap Surgery.
3. On the next visit, the area will be numbed by injecting local anesthesia.
4. After this, the doctor will make a small cut or incision into the affected gum. Then, a flap will be folded upside to give clear access to the depth of the underlying bone tissue, roots, and the impacted gum or tooth.
5. The specialist will explore the interdental area to see the infection and remove the bacterial infection, plaque, tartar, or other unwanted tissues.
6. If there is a need to treat bone defects, Bone Grafting treatment might be performed too.
7. The flap is turned back to seal the area, and the incisions are closed.
8. An intraoral bandage (Periodontal Dressing) may be placed over it as a precaution in the recovery period.
9. Get a regular follow-up after the Periodontal Flap Surgery.

Some alternative Non-Surgical Treatments are medications, Scaling and Root Planing, and Laser Flap Surgery techniques. These procedures can be used depending on the oral condition of the person.
